The architects of the devices that is still destroying Africa are its own sons and daughters who sit at the helm of affairs. Leaders who design crude and dubious mechanisms to trap resources they are elected to manage for their individual aggrandisement. A bottomless depth of greed and dissatisfaction that can never be filled with earthly affluence.
A “loot and share” cartel carefully engineered to fill the void of inferiority as hollow as death. A deliberate and calculated institutional hijack and a systemic hording and trading of free information and services.
A graduate in my country needs to pay a middleman to get employed. Certificates and applications is now an outmoded means of getting a job so 1.9million youths are rendered jobless with all the education, training and skills.
To acquire a national ID, Health Insurance, a travelling passport, Driving License, Birth certificate and many other documents, one needs the service of a Goro boy who is installed and sanctioned by MDs and CEOs to charge ten times the amount of the service fee just so they can get a chunk of it into their pockets. Master the courage and go direct, you will be referred back to the goro boy or it will take you forever to be serviced.
Catching a bus to work, you need a middle man at every pick up point so be prepared to pay ten times the amount. The big man is aware but careless as long as it doesn’t affect him.
As though these were not enough, foreign aids including IMF loans are greedily intercepted, stolen and squandered at the expense of good roads, infrastructure, education and the wellbeing of the people. These sordid mechanisms have been deeply anchored and normalised to manage corruption effectively. Except the god that satisfies the African leader is born, give him the entire universe, he/she will never be content.
